I arrived in Plattsburgh NY at 1am on Monday morning. I pulled into the Rip Van Winkle Motel, got my room and went to sleep. The ride from Detroit was about 9 hours and I was exhausted. I set my alarm for 5:30am. It was already almost time to get up. I had planned to fish the Northern end of the lake, but a last minute call from Dave Wolak made me think twice and I decided to go check out Ticonderoga for one of my 2 practice days. I caught some good fish flipping and on a toad, but I didn't have a good feeling about the fishing there. I decided it wasn't worth the ride. When I got back from Ti Dusty had moved into the room and was working on his tackle. He was going to practice with me on the last day of practice. We drove up to Vermont to get our licenses and to launch up in the Northern end of the lake. I wanted to concentrate my efforts on one area since we had such little time to look. I had caught some fish in the windmill point area before and decided that was as good a place as any to start. Dusty and I found some good fish. I caught some, and Dusty being the fine Co-angler he is shook them off so I could catch them in the tournament; I personally think Dusty just doesn't know how to catch fish. I was excited about the fish we found not because I wanted to fish there for them, but because I thought I could go over into the Inland Sea and run that same pattern there. I don't fish much outside the Inland Sea, so I feel much more comfortable fishing in there. We got off the water about 2 and got gas in Vermont where it was $4.08; it's sad when you're excited about paying that little for gas. When we got back to the room Chris Hall had arrived and was sitting outside the room relaxing in a colorful and comfortable Rip Van Winkle porch chair. To save some money there were 3 of us staying in a 2 bed room. It was me, Dusty and Chris Hall; Chris got the shaft and had to sleep on the floor in between the 2 beds. It was shaping up to be an interesting tournament.
