The second day of practice I headed for the Northern end once again, but this time in search of smallmouth. The first spot I pulled up on I threw my Carolina Rig out and caught another giant over 5. I continued down the ridge without another bite. I ran around fishing a few more humps and some rock piles. I spent allot of time idling the flat using my Humminbird side imaging unit looking for anything interesting that I thought might hold some fish. I found a few small rock piles that had some smaller than average(under 3 lbs) smallies on them. Again, not the ones I need to make the cut. After about 4 hours of searching and minimal fish catching, I decided to go back and fish around where I caught the 5lber. I headed back to my waypoint and threw the tube out. The line immediately jumped and I pulled in a 3+. Just as a side note, almost every fish I caught had to have surgery to remove the hook from its gut. Even if you set the hook the second you felt the bite they had already sucked it all the way down. I continued on about 400 yards following the contour, shaking off between 20 and 30 fish. I was starting to feel a little excited. These were the fish I needed to make the cut; I never saw another boat fish the edge I was fishing in the 7 hours I was on that flat looking around. I will definitely fish this in the tournament!
