jt and i got to my spot at 3 am just in case somebody else wanted to fish it we would be there. unloaded the fire wood from my truck and started the fire and sat and talk till around 5 when trev and his uncle showed up. we all sat around the fire telling fish storys till around 645am when we went from story telling to being to fishing. i got the first hit of the day but missed it around 730 trev started cooking breakfest. we all ate then went back to fishing. around 830 i got my first pike, 27 inches on a spinner bait a min later trev got one 28 inches on a shinner about 5 mins after that i pick up anther one 24 inches. after that buckcall called my cell an asked how i was doing then came and stold shinners from me and started fishing about 50 yards next to us on the boat and the ball busting was on. it was dead for about an hour but it didnt stop us from having fun buckcall on his boat and us from shore busting balls. buckcall picked up a small one it was so small i could hardly see it from shore lol then i missed a moster. after that i got a 28 incher then i throw my rod out with a dead shinner and a foat and as soon as it hit the water a 32 incher jump out of the water with my shinner and i hooked him and got 3rd for it
32 inch
27 inch
24 inch
it was a great day thanks to PDONA and mitch and everyone else for puting this event on i had a great time. also congrats to everyone else who placed and got a pike. sorry i couldnt stay longer i didnt sleep for 2 days and i was really tired.
A bad day if fishing is always better then a good day at work
It was a great day out there it was mine and my partners first Piketoberfest and it was a great one. Hit the water at 6 A.M. and all we could get were bass. Had one nice follow on a 9 inch houdini shad but it didn't take. Here is me and Steve with the first fish of the day right at 6.
Right after I picked up this little striper got a nice pic with the sun just starting to come up
Nice 3 lb + bass from sievel on the 9 inch houdini shad
another one of sievel's bass that was only 3 and a half inches shorter than the striper plug he was using
On our way back to the launch at about 1 we finally got on the board with Steve's first pike of the tourney and his first pike of his life.
Before you know it its 145 and we decided to throw a few casts around 53 on our way back. I was throwing a 2 oz. spinner pretty much identical in color to the mepps #4 that Steve was throwing and sure enough the pike rookie lands the second pike of his life after a great fight on light tackle and a net that you couldn't even fit a perch into. As soon as I saw it I said congrats you probably just placed in a pike tournament on the second pike of your life and sure enough he grabbed 2nd place with 33.5 inches!!! Great job Steve
To everyone who made this day happen Thank you it was great and next year will prove to be better. It was great to get out and meet everyone for the first time. Hopefully I'll run into you guys on the ice this year.

First of all thanks to Paul and the rest of the organizers, this event just keeps getting better and better. I've been to all five and still waiting to catch a Pike. Still had fun and that's what it's all about. I think the best moment that Jimfish and I had was when an Bald Eagle came swooping down about 50 yds. from us, nabbed a fish and flew up into a tree to eat it. I got my camera and slowly tried to move close to it for a good shot. (my camera has only a 3X zoom). This was about as close as he would let us get before it flew off. Also thanks Jim, for providing the great company. Next year "Team Prostate" will rule!
I don't know if it was the same one but we also saw a beautiful eagle land right near us and start looking around for fish at about noon by the island after the Goodspeed. It was definately a great site to see haven't seen one in about 6 years.

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious."
I was half-expecting Mother Nature to give us the same windy treatment she did last Sunday. Mercy was granted, and all we had to overcome was the river fog and debris.
Launching at Wethersfield was fun. I almost had to flood his Jeep before the Tub got buoyant enough to float ! I also parked it a good 25ft or so above the waterline in the lot. 8 to 10 inches of water were waiting around it when we returned. The PiratesTub does fine in 8 inches of water, so getting out of the boat was easy
We were set up way before sunrise, and anticipated an early crappie bite that never showed. While waiting for the fish to wake up, we got to see the sun rise through the trees and fog. It made for some very cool pics.
This pic was taken after the other one. The fog was still getting thicker.
After the evil red fog lifted, the bite started happening for us. Well, Kapt anyway. He had bought a crapload of varieties of bait, and the catfish definitely had a favorite. I was on the **** side of the boat this trip, was lucky to reel in a 4lb'er.
We were also visited for a while by Mike G and Richie aboard the Vagabond with Don, and Capt. Alewife, and ??? (sorry Mike, forgot to ask who that was).
The gathering afterward went off very well. A bit of organization and coordination made for a very successful cookout. A big thanks to Paul, Chris and the Trophy Crew, Amy, Mitch, and everone else who lent a hand. Cleanup looked good too. Great job on helping bus out the trash !!!
Anyone who left early missed Mitch and Kapt matching wits over Mitch's missing award. A complete lack of defenses on either side made for some great entertainment.
Mitch finding Ron's Jeep open, and stealing the spare keys while locking himself in it. Ron taking Mitch's cap he had bagged somehow, and shoving it down the front of his pants. Mitch resists, and Ron starts heading to the "back country" with his cap. Game over ! LOL
Lots more entertainment between those two, including Ron hiding an object in Scott's Jeep while they weren't looking. I believe that object was a full bag of garbage. I almost died laughing when Scott opened the tailgate to grab something out of the back, and never noticed it ! :p Not only did Zach catch a break this year, he caught the pirate in the act. Amy also had her family with her. Her husband (Rob, Ron ? sorry, i forget) and two children came for the event too, and stayed late to chat with us. A great CTF family i finally got to meet.
Now, if you asked Amy for a shirt and missed the event or whatever, please make sure you follow through and make arrangements to complete the deal. Chris will probably be willing to accept payments still, and i'll be more than happy to help too if needed.
Time to get ready for the Iceholes event !!!!!! Get that sucker rolling Mike !!
