Mitch and I hit Candlewood last night in search of some BIG smallies. Neither of us were interested in trying for numbers, we wanted trophies! It took a little while to get the night going but after an average smallie came to the boat Mitch got this one to lift our spirits. This fish fought like mad and tipped the scale at 5.0lbs. We combed the area for a bit longer before heading off but that fish seemed to be a loner.
The next spot was fairly deep with some nice structure and some isolated stumps in about 18-30 feet. As I began to mention the amount of bait beneath the boat...smack this smallie nailed my jig hard!
It wasn't quite the caliber of Mitch's fish but cured my lack of fishing blues . Soon after, another smallie was caught and the bait moved onward as did we.
As we arrived at the next area, Mitch mentions "feels like a largemouth spot" and probably 2 casts later... sure enough a nice largemouth came in. Then we moved again and found a bunch of willing largemouth in a small stretch of shoreline including this one that went 4lbs 10oz.
There were around a dozen fish caught with a few nice smallies and a few nice largemouth. Overall it was a good night! Great fishing with you Mitch

Nice fishing guys. Mitch, i know a 5 lb smallie is exciting as it gets but did ya have to wet your self? Just playing. Fish like that will scratch the itch of any angler.
