It was quite a morning in the turkey woods. Birds were gobbling at 5:30 and I patiently awaited my opportunity. Unfortunately, most of the birds that I heard were henned up and simply shut up after fly down.
I did have a group of Jake’s come in about 8:00, but decided to let them go in hopes that a big Tom would stroll through. About 10:15 I heard a gobbler about 200 yards away and called him in through the woods, full strut right to me, but he hung up and was strutting at 30 yards and another silent Tom came through the woods with two hens and soon he broke strut and walked over to them, and I never got a shot.
Dejected, shaking my head, I can’t believe what just happened! So Close!!
I was sitting there for 10 minutes trying to call those birds back when all of a sudden I noticed a silent Tom strutting towards my location and to my decoys. I waited for him to close the distance, and when he turned broadside, I Center punched him. He tried to fly, but crash landed 15 yards away, and never moved again .
It was an amazing hunt!!
Turkey nuggets are on the menu!

Awesome hunt and great mature bird!

That’s the most action I’ve heard of in a morning and sounds like you have a real honey hole there Jon!

I burned boot leather in two big tracts of Cockaponsett in Deep River / Haddam area and never heard a single bird today.

Definitely tougher with a bow and the extra movement involved, well done!

I've read the Bible...Jesus wins.

Exciting hunt. Always clutch with the bow. That’s a great addition to the CTF stories with the archery kills
