I will never again purchase a fishing license. I will still fish though. I only go out a few times a year and where I go I am not worried about any DEP officers. They can take their $40 licenses and shove them up their you know where. As for this site, it is a great site and I miss it. But I don't pay for any sites on the internet-just a rule I have. Happy New Year and thanks for the birthday e-mail.

Thanks for placing the burden for the DEP expenses on your fellow fishermen, may you haul water in 2010 with each cast.

Nice try. The burden was placed on the taxpayers and fishermen of CT by our idiotic state government. Not me. A 100% increase is ludicrous. I am not the only one who feels this way. Guess what? By increasing the fee so much they will actually lose money-it will backfire bigtime. There is only so much BS a taxpayer can take before saying enough is enough.

You're right Dennis about these fees being "ludicrous", but you won't change the minds of our those in charge by that attitude. The only way we have a chance of not being pushed around anymore is to protest this vigorously enmass as One Voice ! Write a letter to your Rep stating that you are not going to buy a fishing license this year. Hopefully we'll have some kinda of Rally down the line, plan to come. A lot of us are fed up, but don't "checkout", do something about ! Government is suppose to represent us, we have to stop the direction it is heading concerning issues like this that affect us.

Unfortunately the only way the state will lose money by doubling the fees is if greater than half of the fishermen (and women) refuse pay the increased fees. I'm just don't see that happening. I'm sure the state had their bean counters do the statistics and predict that. I agree with Tommy. The answer is through protest, letters and calls and through the election process.

The State of CT Government will not lose any income from this fee increase BUT the people of the state will indeed lose. When you go on a fishing trip, you burn gas, you may purchase some food and drinks. You also may purchase some new fishing tackle, wether it be a pack of hooks or a few new lures. All of this and more is tallied into what is called total economic output.

Well, when you get pissed off enough to call or write your Legislator, let them know that with just a small 10% decrease in participation of fishing this year, it will have a total economic output efeect equal to about $75 million. So, while the government raises about $4 million in new fees, many, many others are going to lose. The last time CT had a fee increase of 40%, aproximently 200 jobs were lost here in the state recreational fishing industry. This current 100% increase will have effects that will dwarf what happened in 2003.

I wasn't going to reply but I feel I have to. I bought all of my new licenses yesterday and I didn't like the price increase either.
The problem is that fisherman that I know have always been some of the most ethical and law abiding people around. You teach your children how to hunt and fish but more importantly to be ethical and respect the law not just the laws they want to respect.
So I say to the guy that wont buy a license. Stay home and dont disrespect the rest of us who are abiding by the rules. This same guy probably would keep short fish and overbag if he didn't like the size increases.

I will buy my Mass non resident hunting/fishing license and spend the majority of my money over the border. Lucky for me I live in NW CT and it is only a short drive to great out of state fishing.

I will wait until the absolute last minute to purchase my CT license and any tags I plan on needing if any.All hunting tags will be purchased online the night before any hunts I plan on going on.

In 2009 I purchased the following CT combo license and also Non-resident season fishing licenses in MA,ME and NY.I also purchased a 10 day Colorado fishing license.

I am afraid to add it all up but this is the first year that I am having to re-think where I fish and how bad I want to fish certain places.Cost has finally become an issue for me.

on top of my own problems I have 3 young sons ,two of them require a fishing license.I would also purchase one for the wife who fished with me once or twice a year, she can now just go for boat rides and will not fish or we will risk it for the one or two fish a year she actually reels in and let her fish without a license from the boat.

I just gave mini mike $40 to get his 2010 fishing license, being broke working 20 hours a week or less and going to college full time ,he just could not afford it on his own.He told me he was just not going to fish this year. WTF !!! So I paid it ,would rather see my boy out fishing than just "hanging out" like most of his peers.I think it is unfair that someone so young would even have to consider giving up fishing.

The increased fee's give PETA a victory over us sportsmen. Our numbers are being reduced by increased ,un-afforable fee's.So PETA is winning with the support of CT state government.
