Your right Bigtoad there are alot of tourneys with only a few boats but again havre you looked at last years permits issued? Alot of times on the weekends there are 2 or 3 clubs of 10-20 boats leaving the same ramp.
The one I love is opening day on the lake. As a kid we would get pumped for it and launch a 14 footer to catch some stocked trout. Those days are over for the small boat fisherman because the last few years there has been bass tournaments on the lake that weekend. I know alot of tourney guys and a few are my best friends that live local and they agree there are to many tournaments on the lake.
CHANGE IS SCARY BUT IT IS REWARDING ON THE OTHER SIDE!
SURELY MISS MY CTF FRIENDS BUT ALWAYS WILL BE HERE TO GIVE ALL A HARD TIME!
The Problem is not with the Fee it is with the policy. Once a precedent like this is established it will snowball and you will pay this fee for every lake you fish..
exactly, this is a scarry situation, and i dont think it should go without making some noise
instead of contacting the DEP, i emailed Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. I figured if anyone can help this situation, it would be him. I urge everyone to do the same, he can be contacted at: Attorney.General@po.state.ct.us Do not let the Candelwood Lake Authority start a precedent, make some noise.
A lot of good points being brought up here. This plan has been in the making for several years and was initially modeled on the Lake George method. Kind of makes sense to have the users pay for some of the upkeep of the lake. The 5800 boats moored on the lake also pay the fee in addition to what they already pay. The 200 -300 boats a day that can come through the state launches are a small percentage of the problem yet bring with them some major problems. Problems that need to be addressed by someone.
We're all aware of the issues facing the CT DEP, yet, if they had the resources, and the were withall to properly manage and maintain their access points, the state ramps and the generall public wouldn't get such a bad rap. Ineffective managemnt has created this issue probably more than anything else and I'll give credit where credit is due. Hats off to the CLA. They have a great outreach/public learning program and do a decent job "mamnaging" the lake. The CLA will have to sell this idea to the General Assembly and I don't see it as a difficult task UNLESS people can speak rationally and logically against the issue.
Myself,,, I don't want to pay that fee for a lake that is owned by a private energy supply company and, managed by an under-staffed under-funded State goverment agency, then is enforced by a quasi-public regional authority. Throw the Feds in on top of this, and it creates a huge mud pie. What scares me the most is the potential ramifications to other State waters run by Local government. Could have a huge cascade efect.
I have not heard anything.............. I was recently talking to someone, one of our vendors about the saltwater license deal..... he said something similar to man of our views....... He would not mind paying anything as long as it goes to what we need..... more officers..... better access etc.......... It has to be fair.....
a tough subject............ I know everyone is starting to get the itch too.......... i want to fish Candlwood badly.......
If the money would go to making the lake better for all, I'd be all for it as long as it was just that lake. Thats never the case as the state has proven that over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!!! They take more and give less each time something like this comes up. Yes I believe if this were to go through it would snowball to every other lake authority in the state. This is just another way for them to stick there hands in our pockets and not one thing will change if and when this does happen. That fee would generate millions of $$ and some lucky lake authority reps will be helping themselfs to it. The rest will be put in the states general fund for them to put elsewhere. Just another useless Tax!!!!
Let me ask you guys one simple question. Sense the state has received money from the 2 casino on average 30+ million a month. What has changed for us? Sorry make that 2 questions. How did they get by without it before the casino's?

CWoodman, and everyone. next year when you are out on the lake, drive by the marinas and look at all the NY registrations! Why does DEP allow this? On Congamond, they go right up to your door if you have an out of state tag and make you prove you are not just there for the weekend!. If this lake has public access, how does ANY local lake authority have ANY rights? In Mass we call any lakes over a certain acreage "great ponds" and no local yokels can dothis kind of crap! Sure have a fee for the season, but account for every penny, improve the ramps, enforce the rules and pave latins and clean the porta potties more!
