It would force them to actually be productive in office and not screw over the working man.. because they will be one after their term....

I only live here because my wife wants to stay here. I retire in less than a year from my second career and if she said lets get out of Connecticut I'd say yes and where we going. Don't know if they are retirement friendly but I would love anything north of Connecticut, the further the better, preferably the last house at the end of a long dirt road.....

New Hampshire is your best bet - not that it's anything great compared to anywhere outside the north-east...

????? How do you miss an estimate by 418 million?

Its like guessing there are 115 doughnuts in this box.

Great options for family boating (Sag Harbor, Greenport, 3 Mile harbor, BI, Mystic, Watch Hill, the list goes on)
Great options for fishing - all within about 10 mile from the dock ....Hatchet's, LSS, Plum Gut, Six mile, CT river, black point etc etc
great school in Old Lyme - top 15 in the state.
Less taxes in Old Lyme than i paid in Hamden for 2x the house and 3x the land
doesnt get ridiculously cold in the winter and doesnt get ridiculously hot in the summer

The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I have had a few job offers to head to California, England, and Colorado... turned them down because i want to STAY in CT.

to each their own...

Chris

Pretty much what Chris said except I'm in Old Saybrook instead of Old Lyme - we also enjoy exceptionally low tax rates compared to most of the state and good schools.

CT also offers easy access to NY and Boston plus a pile of airports in reasonable reach which.

That said, our long term plans involve a winter house somewhere warmer - depending on what 'long' ends up being that could mean spending the school year in perhaps Charleston (Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island) and the summers here.

I'm a CPA, and when I read this I spit Cap'n & Coke all over my computer screen...

Low tax rates? Perhaps to your point your property taxes are below average (in CT), but we all get HOSED in this state by the end of the year. Sure, we're better off than those out in the Socialist Republic of Californistan or across the borders in Tax-A-Chusetts or ... New York (yeah, haven't heard a disparaging tax-related nick-name for that one yet...but trust me, it's a hell-hole of government inefficiency) but even if we win the rat-race against them we're still all rats.

Oh, and to the post's purpose - my entire family less my two grandparents in NC live here, we're all close, and no-one is willing to move away from anyone else, so we stay. I grew up in New Milford along with my wife, now we live in Kent and just about every in-law/relative is within 30 minutes of us in any direction making holidays a complete fiasco...but we love it and we'll never trade it for anything.
