On 2 hours sleep (aka a nap) I picked up JP & the Netman around 5:00. We wanted to be at the ramp at 5:45 cause of the long line to launch. Into the water by 6:10 and off down river we went. We decided since we got an early start that maybe if we hit the salmon cove we might have some luck.
Nope, my bad. We fished that area non-stop up & down w/ every lure in all 3 of our boxes - I mean everything!
So after several hours of nothing we decided to fish the main river for a little bit. We fished both shores, from the launch down to the bridge. Well maybe most of the shoreline, and we had no chases, pops, bangs, hits, nothing??? The water was very cloudy w/ a fast tide so maybe that was the problem?
Around noon we hit the small cove upstream of the salmon river cove (I think a old power plant or something) and thats where I hit the only fish of the day.
Thanks to everyone who made this happen, for a online based club we all did a fine job and had a great time. Great Food!! It's my first Piketoberfest and I'm already looking forward to winning the trophy next year (watch out CCP)!!!

Had a great time as usual. Good job by all you planners. It's fascinating what fishing can bring together. Our boat had three good pike on and three come off. Had a good one at the net before he stole my spinnerbait Two banks that we encountered pike on had a similar shallow shelf with a grass edge before it dropped to 10 feet or so. At the end of the day, that type of bank produced these little buggers. Crazy little Stripers. What are they still doing around and eating spinnerbaits?
Also picked up 10 largemouth in this same location along with a large Pike chase but oh well, It wasn't to be.
Congrats to all the winners and looking forward to next year.

Thanks to the organizers! Deb and I had a great time and we enjoyed meeting all you CTFers. Here is a simplified report of our day.
I got Deb up at 4:00 am, we were out of the house at 5:00 am, launched at Haddam Meadows state boat launch, and on the water and fishing at 6:00 am. In the dark. In 34 degrees and fog. It was so cold that the fog was freezing to the boat surfaces. We started fishing right next to the launch since it would have been bone chilling to run anywhere. By 9:00 am I had caught 3 largemouth bass, but of course they didn't count for anything. Then we started hopping downstream, finally ending up by the Salmon River state boat launch where I had two pike strike my lure, but not getting hooked. I did catch one 26" striper that I thought was going to be the winner until I saw what it was. Finally I caught one 24" pike at 9:30. We measured it and let it go. Then we ran back to where we started where I caught a 26" pike and another decent striper. We continued to hop from spot to spot, going upstream now. We had no more bites by 1:00 pm. So with an hour left we went back by the launch where we kept casting until our arms could cast no more. We put the boat on the launch a half hour early. We didn't place with our fish. But we had fun. A guy with young kids won both of the fishing outfits Deb and I donated, which I was pleased to see. There was lots of food, some good laughs, and I met a lot of the people that I have been conversing with on the CTFisherman.com web site.
