I finally made it out for the first 2006 trip in my boat. Sorry I have to withold the name of the lake.

My intention was to christen my new pitching setup and work any cover I found thoroughly. I began by pitching a 1/4 oz. black&blue jig with matching craw trailer. After only 10 minutes I missed a fish due to a poor hookset. I actually never felt the strike and when I tried a second hookset I watched a solid 3-4 lb. fish swim off. The good news was I was confident there would be some fish willing to bite.

I continued on, throwing to anything I could see when I felt a solid tap. I was ready this time and set the hook hard. Even though my drag was set too lightly for this caliber of fish, I was able to play her just long enough. This was my first of the year and definately my best first bass ever. She weighed in at 7 lbs. on the nose and was one fat fish.

I put her in the well in hopes of getting another good fish and about 30 minutes later... another pitch, another tap and unbelievably, another big bass \:D . This one weighed 6lb.9oz. and was basically a twin of the first except not quite as fat. I wanted to stop for a picture and release but said just a couple more casts \:D when... another smack on the jig and a nice 5lb'er came to the boat . Here is the 5 followed by the twins.

I caught a total of 8 fish on the jig with the others being between 1-2.5 lbs. All were caught in shallow water relating to cover.

This was a day to remember and will be very hard to duplicate. Although smallies are a blast, nothing beats BIG largemouth in my book.
