Just a side note :

96,000 jobs added for Sept, wow this economy is really cranking on all cylinders \:D All of those hard working college kids who got an education and did all the right things are still looking for work. 96k doesnt support new entries into the job market equaling a net loss. Not to add fuel to the fire. ;\)

All in good fun !

Are you kidding me? I used to drive for a living. I have been to about 90% of the towns in CT, MA, RI and NY. I know what the towns are like. "I'll be glad to take you on a tour. Pack the gauge and some spare clips!" You dont have to, Ive been to those places and yet never felt the need to carry a weapon. Currently we are ranked 35th in the country for violent crimes....

You missed my point completely. Your picking on JFM for living in madison. You live in New Britain....not a real shabby place to live in some parts.

I find you all very bright and I enjoy both sides and the passion expressed. But I need some enlightenment (that will require a pause from the Liberal vs Right wing discussion): it appears that trying to fight terrorism with traditional warfare doesn't work. Innocents are killed, the media attention is what the terorists want(as it creates more justification for the muslim anti-western positions), each terrorist that dies seems to result in the recruitment of many more, there is nobody to negotiate with, and there appears to be no "traditional" solution. I mean, you can't nuke the whole country of Iraq. To stem what seems to be an exponential increase in the number of terrorists, any one got any ideas how to diffuse all this anti-western hate that seems to fuel this growth of terrorism?

If JFM is right(and I think he is) then they will leave it up to me.And they are not helping the wealthy they are just not taking as much of THEIR money and I have no problem with that either.

JFM,

Gee, the house you grew up in sounds like the house I bought 2 years ago! I grew up in a 4 room apartment, while my father worked two jobs to support us. I basically never saw him except on Sunday.

And I am not complaining, I am suggesting ways we can do better.

I am not underpriveleged, nor am I whining. I am advocating for those less fortunate and exploited and disenfranchised by our current system, manipulated by greedy corporate puppets like Bush and Cheney.

Immigrants and their children from the turn of the century to post WWII lived in a completely different world than we live in today. They absolutely DID have union protections, the history of organized labor dates back well beyond the turn of the century and was at its HEIGHT following the Great Depression!

And it was FDR and his "New Deal", wherein Uncle Sam redistributed the wealth accordingly, and provided assistance to the poor, where social security was created, along with vast and sweeping other government assistance programs, not to mention government investing in the repair and overhaul of the environment and the infrastructure, that brought the Great Depression to an end! When did your parents come here, and when were you born? I think perhaps you may want to go back and revisit some of your U.S. History.

Back then they didn't have to complain about the distribution of wealth because the corporate greed and excess that they faced was no where near what is today! Again, I refer you to Kevin Phillips' "The Politics of Rich and Poor" for an enlightening history lesson.

I don't blame the rich for the poor not getting enough. I blame the rich for TAKING more than their fair share!

What you fail to understand is that power and privilege is invisible to those by whom it is enjoyed!

Must be nice to be you!

For what it's worth, to the undecideds. PLEASE do not let the ramblings of a few stubborn fisherman decide your vote. Look at both candidates on your own and come to your own conclusions.

Rich,

What type of driving did you do? There isn't much business or industry in the areas to which I am referring. You are right about New Britain, there are some very nice neighborhoods, including the one in which I live.

There is also, Malikowski Circle, where the Fire Dept and EMS won't go without a police escort, and which is a half a block from my parents house; Corbin Heights, Pinnacle Heights, Mt. Pleasant, there used to be Willow St., near my wife's school, but the City razed the entire block because of the violence and drug dealing...

And the issue was not crime, it was economic depression and the gross and unfair disparity between richest and poorest. Oh, I forgot Broad St., Orange St, Oak St., North St......

Rich,

You're right, sorry JFM, I took something you said and used it against you. Low blow, I retract that comment!

I installed cash registers and POS systems into several chain restaraunts including Mcdonalds, BK, KFC and all the others. So I was always in the worst parts of most of these neighborhoods. I saw more people staanding on the sidewalks in the middle of the day then I care to admit. But then I look in the paper and see hundreds of laborer job openings. Is it economic depression or just plain laziness?
