I'd try to see if MASS has the same sort of thing ASAP.

My take is (and someone correct me if I am wrong) that the OP may be only entitled to reparations for his damaged boat. In the end, whether or not the individual who caused the mishap stuck around the scene has no bearing on an insurance payoff. Character or lack thereof, does not compel an insurance carrier to pay out more cash than is due. I am not sure if jumping into bed with a lawyer in this particular case is worthwhile. We may be talking about fair market value of a 21' Seaswirl and that's it.
