A friend of mine asked me to find out the rules and regulations of fishing the private campground areas of the natchaug river. Does the state stock these areas and must you pay the campgrounds to fish there?

I don't know if the private campgrounds charge to fish there or not. If you are on the riverbank you are technically on their property and therefore need their permission to be there. They have no control over people in boats, canoes, kayaks or float tubes.
I don't cover the eastern part of the state, but I do believe that the Natchaug is stocked in various locations.
I always wondered why they stocked thoughout the campgrounds since it is largely inaccessible to the general public. If you're a patron of the campground, it's great. do the campgrounds pay the state to stock throughout their properties?

The other side of the river is accessible to the public through state forest lands. We do not accept payment from campgrounds to stock. If stocking is done from private property it is usually due to easy access to the water which is permitted by the private landowner.
Yes, it is possible to access the opposite bank via state land, but I wouldn't exactly call that fishing access. Most people don't travel that far through the woods to hunt deer there, nevermind catch a trout.

I've stopped in at the campgrounds on the Natchaug and all of them have a guest fee attached to accessing their campground and from what I remember it was in $4 to $6 range per day, even if you are only fishing. Matter of fact every private campground I've ever been to has guest rates for the day. I'm thinking about dragging my popup down for the weekend sometime soon so I can just get up and fish.
