Good to see you got your bad draws out of the way before the meat of the season begins \:\) It will be nice to see you paired with Lefebre, Yelas, Morgan, and the rest of the upper class the rest of the year ;\)

No worries, all will work out....keep at it!

After I left the tournament on Toho I drove over to inglis, FL. I stayed with my wifes uncle for a few days until my wife and kids flew down. I picked them up in Orlando and we drove back over to her parents house. It was nice to see them; I hadn't seen them in 3 weeks. My wifes uncle guides on the Gulf flats down there and took us out one day. We had an awesome time. I didn't get to fish, but my wife and kids cleaned house.

Great pics of your kids. Keep up the good work.

Don't doubt in the dark what you learned in the light.

FLW Series #2
Lake Wheeler, AL
Water Temp: 60
Pre-Spawn

Once again I have no internet service. I was able to find a wireless network if I sit outside in the parking lot. Today is our day off and we’ve been here practicing for 4 days. The water temperature was getting right for the spawn, but a nasty windy cold front blew in after the first day of practice. The first day of practice was good, with nice weather and biting fish. Sam and I both caught about 14lbs. Sam was throwing a shaky head and I was throwing a crankbait. The second day took a turn for the worse; with the wind changing from a south wind to a north wind. It was cold and windy, but I managed another 13lb bag on a crankbait and Sam had about 10lbs. My 4lber put me over the 10lb mark. I think a decent fish will be the difference between doing alright and winning the tournament. The 3rd day was a little slower, but we both caught about 10lbs. The final day of practice was more of the same. The weather warmed up a bit today and it feels pretty good. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be in the mid 60’s with the wind changing back out of the south again. The temperature should be in the upper 70’s by weeks end making for an interesting change. The fish are ready to move up and a sunny, warm day could be all it takes. Most of the fish we caught in practice were filled with eggs; a 14” fish weighed about 2 lbs. I really feel like I could do well in this tournament if I don’t get the kind of draws I’ve been getting. The weight I caught in practice would have put me in the top 10. We’ll see what happens!

I said I thought one fish would make all the difference; and I was right. I’m not sure what place I ended up in with my weight of 6-11, but the 8lber I lost first thing this morning would have had me at the top. There was really nothing I could have done differently. The fish was foul hooked on a shad rap; it came up to the top about 10’ from the boat and I noticed it was hooked in its’ back. The fish was just wallowing on top and then it decided to go ballistic jumping and then took off like a rocket toward a dock. I free-spooled the line keeping light tension with my thumb, but the fish was just too powerful and pulled off. So close yet so far! I had a tough day after that; this all took place about 8 in the morning. I ended up catching all my fish on a jig. After Chris caught his limit he went looking for big smallies throwing a chatterbait on some bluff walls. It’s nearly impossible for a co-angler to catch fish when a pro is paralleling a bluff bank. I was dropping the jig in the 4’ between the boat and the bluff and letting it sink. Most of the fish hit the jig on the fall. Tomorrow I fish with JT, so it should be a fun day. After the weigh-in today, FSN did the Co-angler close up segment with me. It was fun. Tomorrow they’re going to follow us and do some on-water filming while we’re fishing. Hopefully it will come out good. FSN said it will be a one minute segment for the television show.

Jess, do you know how many of us our living vicariously through you?

Once again, thanks for taking the time to post.

Way to hang tough after losing a toad that early in the am! Not easy.
