Couldn't have said it better myself Jon. What goes around, comes around.
Jess and Dusty, I enjoyed reading and following your tourney's. I enjoyed the posts, pictures, the ups and downs, and have a greater respect for you traveling Pro's. I'll be looking forward to next seasons start.

no such thing as a spot jumper, you don't own the lake!
Its called ETHICS. why? is this something you like to do?! to me its just wrong. i fish the lake 99.9% of the time, and see it alot. let me tell you, ive seen it come down to all out brawls. so you dont want to bring that kind of stuff round here. they dont take to kindly to that kind of behavior!
Well put chris!!! I can remember you leaving a spot when you seen me fishing it in a tourney you were not in and that type of courtesy goes along way with me!!

Simply put...treat others as though you wish to be treated. Stealing is stealing whether its on the lake or from a store.Would you really feel the same sense of accomplishment knowing you stole somebody's spot. Best of luck Jess and Dusty, we know you'll earn yours the right way
Thank You all veterans and current members of our armed forces.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands during moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy
I still feel sour about what transpired that day. For anyone who doesn't think what that guy did was stealing, if I had caught just 5 small keepers that day I would have won between $10,000-$20,000. I dont' know who the guy was; and don't particularly care. People who do that kind of thing don't get anywhere in the sport. Dusty and I fished 4 days for about 10-12 hours a day before we found that spot. This wasn't a laydown, or tapering point, it was an offshore area that you have to know what to look for to find. He didn't know it was there to begin with; he was just pounding the bank and saw me 50 yards out off shore catching fish. I fished in that pocket for 5 hours before I saw another boat. I can only hope that he won't understand why the fish were there and won't learn anything from it. It may be legal, but it's not the right thing to do. It takes more than fishing to do well in this sport, and people like that don't have the personality to make it.

Jess, I see on blogposts from southern states where this type of stealing is dealt with in harsh language. Its akin to cheating with another mans wife. The undercurrents of a lot of interviews on both BASS and FLW circuits is directed at the amount of spot stealing that is occuring and how its ruining tournaments for a lot of guys. Between locals GPSing pros on fish from spectator boats, then showing up on their spots the next day, to pros outright stealing spots from other contestants. On a filming of an Elite Tournament I saw on ESPN last year, Swindle went face to face with another guy over a spot under the same circumstances as yours. He just simply told the guy "it aint right man. You know you saw me on these fish yesterday". He demanded to see the other guys waypoints proving he found the spot in practice. Naturally the guy couldnt show him the waypoints so he left the spot to Swindle. I guess you need to harden your attitude and somehow shame the ba/tard into moving. What else you going to do? For the sake of the integrity of the sport, the higher echelon trails almost need to have mediators who can settle disputes about spots as they occur. Theres enough GPS data in each rig to trace movements. In the big money trails it should be standard equipment. Then they need to assess penalties to the thieves. Its just not right that you should be getting robbed when that much is at stake.
I still haven't heard anything yet from FLW about my sponsorship for next year. I'm feeling a little nervous about my chances of getting put on the pro side with the economy the way it's going. If there are cut-backs like there have been in so many other big companies, the spot that might have been available for me may not exist anymore. I'm still hoping for the best though. I did get my contract renewed with Berkley which is awesome; they had some pretty big prostaff cut-backs, but they decided to keep me on. They told me I was doing a great job and to keep up the good work. If I don't get the FLW sponsorship you all may see me at quite a few more local events.

Jess, the fish are unaware of the economic climate. Drop it down a notch within your means and give it hell. Someone of your caliber needs a stage to play on. One of the most mistated quotes by Yogi Berra is "It doesnt matter wether you win or lose its how you play the game". He actually said something to the effect that "what matters most is that your in the game". Not meant to be taken that how you play the game isnt important. Thats another subject. He meant that if your not in the game someone else is taking your place. Being in the game is what opens doors of oppurtunity.

What I said guys could be taken 2 ways. What I meant from your point of view is that if there is no such thing as an anchor rule, then you should have put your boat within 2ft of his until he moved! You said you didn't even say anything to him and that might have cost you 25k! From HIS standpoint. How do you know as he entered the cove, he wasn't thinking "damn, that Yankee is on MY spot" More communication might have had a different result.
