After playing around on the Internet for a few years, Findbass and I finally put a trip together. Yep, we set out in hopes of big fish, and we were not disappointed.

I swear, I think I can count the largemouth I've caught in Candlewood -- or seen caught by a partner -- on one hand this year. However, last night, I witnessed the power of the floppy hat firsthand, as Birch proceeded to call in the largemouth from throughout the lake to his Findbass bait. Unreal. \:D

My results really slacked off after landing the 5-pounder, with Findbass doing all the heavy lifting. But hey, I'll take a 5 pound smallie any day of the week. \:D

Lure details:
7" Berkley Gulp Turtle Back Worm (Junebug color)
1/4-oz. tungsten weight (un-pegged)
red, glass bead
4/0 Gamakatsu
8-lb. Cabela's Fluorocarbon

What a great night on the water. Calm, moonlit and no boat traffic. The action was pretty sporadic and really died off toward the end. However, we kept at it for just one more fish and Findbass finally picked up a nice smallie at about 2:45 a.m. to cap off the night.

If you think that smallie is big, just wait until the late fall/early winter on Candlewood. There's going to be some big fish caught.
